PA Hunting & Trapping Digest

Each year we run advertisements in the surrounding state hunting & trapping digests. They have a great reach, so the ad ticket price is relatively high. To help offset the cost, we typically look to use co-op advertising funds and co-brand our advertisements. In 2019 we linked up with Black Eagle Arrows to produce the ad below.

In 2020 and 2021, we have advertised alongside Easton. Easton has their own source of hunting lifestyle photographs, which makes it a smooth process to design and get an ad approved. Below are the two most recent advertisements.

This year we are featured on page 47 of the PA Hunting & Trapping Digest distributed by the PA Game Commission. Check it out!

LAS Bowhunter's Extravaganza

Each year the Lancaster Archery showroom hosts the Bowhunter's Extravaganza in August. It's one of the biggest sales for LAS and allows archers to get geared up for the hunting season. In Marketing, we design, print, cut, finish all of the sales signage needed for the pro shop. Additionally, we run several print advertisements in local publications. We also design and send out a mailer to LAS customers within a specific radius.

The Extravaganza mailer is 12 page mailer printed in color, front and back that we get printed locally. We have a tall list of products to include in the mailer to get archers excited. When designing, it can be a good challenge to make all of the products fit within the 12 pages in an organized manner. Below is the design I came up with for last year's event.

Lancaster Archery Apparel: Women's Tee

One of our goals is to expand upon the women's apparel we have available at Lancaster Archery Supply. With this design I wanted to focus on typography. I found a script font that had a bold yet vintage vibe to it for the main "Bows & Arrows" text. It naturally had more of a feminine look and feel to it. I added additional design elements to make the final mark.

I chose a heather gray shirt color in a soft style. The fit of the shirt was really important to me. Finding a nice woman's cut that is flattering on many body-types is quite challenging. So many cuts are cut small which makes it really difficult for ladies to shop, and especially for those shopping online. This Fruit of the Loom cut is pretty perfect as it is true to size and isn't as short as some other cuts.

Our screen printer suggested we do one pass of the white LAS logo on the sleeve and no white base under the front image. I absolutely love their suggestion because it gives it more of a natural and vintage feel to the whole look. Grab yours at LancasterArchery.com!

In addition to creating these three new garments, we added some hats and shooter jerseys to the 2021 LAS apparel lineup. I designed a full page ad featuring some of these apparel items that is currently being printed in the 2021-2022 Lancaster Archery catalog. Below is the ad design including in-house photography.

New Lancaster Archery Supply Tee

I created several new apparel pieces for the 2021 Lancaster Archery Supply apparel. First up is a men's pocket tee. I started off with the Next Level cotton pocket crew t-shirt in forest green. This is a really nice poly blend shirt that is of good construction but also has a soft feel.

The design features a circular graphic I designed stepping away from the original LAS logo. A few months ago, I came up with the broadhead/antler design. I built on that by incorporating the text and other design elements. To be consistent with our other apparel, the original LAS logo is featured on the sleeve. I went with a one-color design in a neutral tan to compliment the forest green shirt color.

Overall I am very happy with how this shirt came out and you can buy your very own on the Lancaster Archery website.

LAS Apparel: Women's Wild One Tee

I LOVE apparel design! One of my favorite shirts I have designed for LAS was this Women's Wild One Tee. Like most of my best apparel designs, this one began as a hand drawn sketch.

The goal was to create something feminine for the female archer/hunter. I spent a lot of time finding the right shirt sample-something feminine, flattering for many body types, and also a decent fit since so many women's shirts run small. For the sketch, I went in a floral/bohemian approach.

From there I brought the sketch into Illustrator and converted it to a vector file. It took a decent amount of touch ups and tweaks since the sketch was generally small and rough. I experimented with different colors and potential garments, before ultimately landing on the Anvil Women's Freedom Tee in rose with a white and black design. I added in the "Lancaster Archery Supply" text subtly below the right antler to add some LAS branding without taking away from the overall design feel.

The grey pictured above represents the knocked out pieces. Therefore, this could be screen printed with only black and white ink. The grey above will just be the rose garment color. Using the t-shirt colors is one of my favorite techniques. Not only does it create complexity to the design, but it also allows me to implement an additional color without adding an ink color which then adds cost.

Once we got this design produced, it became available to purchase on the Lancaster Archery website. Our in-house photographer took great photos of the shirt. You can currently purchase this shirt here: https://www.lancasterarchery.com/lancaster-archery-supply-womens-wild-one-tee.html
